Managing risks from digitalisation in the water sector

IWA Digital Water Programme
risk management, digitalisation, water

Target Audience

Utility managers, researchers, policy experts and consultants

Description

Digitalisation, namely the use of digital technologies in day to day operations, is reshaping the water sector and enabling urban services to seamlessly connect through their value chain. Besides the many opportunities that this transition implies to increase resilience and sustainability, the implementation of digital tools also creates new threats to infrastructure and service delivery systems, requiring new approaches to manage risks such as cyber security.

Learning objectives

• Awareness of the importance of appropriate risk management and identification of time-sensitive recovery measures related to the threats linked to the digitalisation of water utilities;
• Identify options and ways forward to share experiences that increase resilience in implementing new digital tools in water utilities operations, among developing and emerging economies.
